6 steps to verify a Korean car exporter is real before you pay

Before wiring money to anyone offering you a car from Korea, verify their legal identity. This is not extra hassle — it takes minutes and protects you from losing your money entirely.

1) Ask for the Korean business registration number

Every registered Korean company has a business registration number (사업자등록번호) that can be checked through the Korean National Tax Service's official business-verification service. Ask for this number and the company's legal name, and confirm it matches the name on the bank account you'd be wiring to.

2) Check trade association membership

Some exporters claim membership in the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA) or similar bodies, and some fabricate membership certificates. Don't rely on a logo on a website — contact the association directly to confirm.

3) Request a video call and official documents

• A video call from an actual office or car lot — not a pre-recorded clip
• A formal invoice under the company name before any transfer, not just a WhatsApp message
• A registered office address you can verify, not just a PO box
• A landline business number alongside a personal WhatsApp number

4) Never pay before reviewing the car and its report

Anyone asking for full or partial payment before sending the Encar inspection report and clear photos of the car is a red flag. Always request a formal invoice under the registered company name before any bank transfer.
