Registering your car and getting plates after importing from Korea
Customs clearance steps, local technical inspection, and plate registration in Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar.

Arrival at port isn't the finish line — next comes customs clearance, local technical inspection, and finally plate registration. Here's what to expect in each country.
Customs clearance steps
- Submit the Bill of Lading and purchase invoice to customs
- Pay customs duty calculated on the car's declared value
- Receive official customs release
Local technical inspection
Before registration, most Saudi, UAE, and Qatari traffic authorities require a local technical inspection (conformity, emissions, brakes, and lights) even for a nearly new car. This is separate from the Encar inspection done in Korea.
Getting your plates
Once the technical inspection passes and registration fees are paid, local plates are issued and the car is legally road-ready. The full process from clearance to plates typically takes one to three weeks.
